Our partners from AquaBioTech Group took part in the annual conference “ClimRisk2020” held by Società Italiana per le Scienze del Clima (SISC). The conference aims at connecting leading scientists, researchers, economists, practitioners, business leaders, and policymakers, whose activities are focused on different aspects of climate change, its impacts and related policies. This conference is an important interdisciplinary platform for the presentation of advances and research results in the fields of science and management of climate change.

SOCLIMPACT, represented by AquaBioTech Group presented the results of the project’s risk assessments regarding climate change risks for the marine aquaculture sector:

  • Change in production due to an increase in surface water temperature
  • Increased fragility of the aquaculture activity due to an increase of extreme weather

Impact chains for these risks have been developed and operationalised to identify the significant risks and finally enable the comparison between different islands. These results facilitate the development of adaption strategies and support policy strategy and capacity building.

The participation in this kind of event is of crucial importance to disseminate the project results and support the conference’s goal of raising the ambition of climate action in the age of global emergencies.
